8 Steps to rank fast in Google.
First, what is a backlink and how does it work? How to get backlinks for my website
A backlink is a link your website gets from another website.
The more backlinks a webpage have, the more popular it is in Google’s eyes. Google will think “this page must be important and certainly have good content because it has a lot of backlinks”.
A backlink is like a vote, the more votes you have, the more chance you have to get a better ranking.
Nofollow vs Dofollow
What is the difference between them? a Dofollow link will count as a vote for your website and a Nofollow link will not.
Simply look at the HTML code by right-clicking on the name of the website’s owner and selecting “inspect element”. Ex. Inspect your name, on a comment you left on a website.
A dofollow link will look like this:
<a href=”URL”>Link Text</a>
A nofollow link will look like this:
<a href=”URL” rel=”nofollow”>Link Text</a>
You can also install the “Nofollow”‘s Firefox/Chrome extension. (You’ll see in red all the Nofollow links)
In the past, SEOs were abusing the power of backlinks only to rank content in the search engines. So, Google introduced Nofollow links to prevent that from happening.
You should have a balance of Dofollow and Nofollow links on your website. Otherwise, Google will know that you are trying to rank yourself and can penalize you.
Your goal should be to get links from authoritative and relevant sites.
Keep in mind that yahoo and Bing support the Nofollow anchor tag.
Why some others competing sites rank better than you in Google Search, under more competitive keyword phrases?
Because they have more authority, and how do you get more authority? Through Page Rank and Keyword Authority, both of which are achieved through a process known as “backlinking”.
What’s Page Rank?
A Page Rank is, how many links on the internet are pointing to your web page. Don’t confuse with how many links are pointing to your website. If the index of your website has a high Page Rank, it does not mean that your newly created web page on your website will also have high Page Rank.
Google ranks web pages, not websites. Don´t waste your time on ranking your own domain name or website profile.
You can use Google Toolbar to find out your Page Rank
How is it determined whether or not a backlink is “relevant” for the purposes of increasing Keyword Authority?
It’s determined by three main things.
1. The Keyword Authority of the linking Website, 2. The Keyword Optimization of the linking Web Page, and 3. The Anchor Text of the link.
A Keyword Authority is built by two main things: 1. Keyword Optimisation, and 2. The relevance of backlinks.
Keyword Optimisation is when you write an article with the keyword phrase appearing 2-5% of the time.
The second thing that builds Keyword Authority are, the backlinks. You should know that links pointing to your web page that is relevant to the contents of your web page will give you more Keyword Authority than a link that is not related to the content of your web page at all.
The anchor text
Anchor text is simply the text that is highlighted with a link, that will send your visitors to another website or page.
Using good links will give you Keyword Authority.
You can also use PGN (Private Blog networks) to create fast backlinks, I explained more in details in the Free Traffic post. I think personally that backlinks should be natural, this means that a website must not use artificial ways to create backlinks for their own websites, don’t buy from Fiverr 300 backlinks for $5, Google will probably penalize you if you don’t do it right. The quality of links is far more important than the quantity. Focus on providing helpful, relevant and informative information in your articles.
The first sites Google will be displaying are those that they believe are “authority sites” for the keyword that the person entered.
8 Steps to create backlinks:
2. Comment on Dofollow Forums (Commenting or Answering people’s questions is a great way. They will appreciate you and will certainly go to your website)
3. Use facebook, Twitter etc, to share your content. Think about, where people spend the most of their time? if they spend 3 hours on Facebook then you should too. If you see a funny picture, post in your blog, people will share and comment.
4. You can obtain backlinks from website directories. Dmoz is the most popular one. Is maintained by a group of volunteers so, it can take time for your site to get reviewed and listed in Dmoz. Make sure to read the submission guidelines.
Dmoz, has high rank and value because Google trust in the review of the editor. After your listing is approved, your site will rank better than before.
5. Submit your blog to .edu and .gov forums and blogs, Google loves backlinks from this kind of sites and regards them as authority.
6. Create a Wikipedia Page and include your link in the resource section.
7.Write posts that start with numbers e.g. “9 ways to…”, these type of posts, tend to get backlinks.
Know the backlinks and domain authority ranking of your competitors with Moz, Openlinkprofiler, SemRush or Majestic.
You can also use LinkDiagnosis, it’s totally FREE, but it works better with Firefox.
